Update on Palestine Solidarity Tilburg Demonstration
17th May 2024On May 16, a demonstration by Palestine Solidarity Tilburg (PST) took place on campus during Night University. The demonstration proceeded peacefully. Security personnel were deployed to ensure that the demonstration could occur in a manner that was safe for both Night University visitors and the demonstrators. The Executive Board will engage in a dialogue with PST in the near future.

Memes are now common form of discourse we should embrace in digital economy- but they are risky
17th May 2024For many, memes have become synonymous with online culture, whether on social media, in group chats, or on politician's accounts. They are aesthetic expressions of digital culture and society, which we must consider as valuable contributions to communication. However, as Lucie Chateau states, they are compromised by their place in digital capitalism. She defends her thesis on May 24th.

Jeanine Guidry wins APIC-AJIC Award for article on willingness to get COVID vaccine
16th May 2024Jeanine Guidry of the Tilburg School of Humanities and Digital Sciences received the APIC-AJIC Award (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology) for Publication Excellence. Her article “Willingness to get the COVID vaccine with and without Emergency Use Approval” was widely read and cited the past two years.

Short publications: now automatically Open Access
14th May 2024Tilburg University approved an important change in its policy for scholarly publishing. The new Open Access regulation means that closed access publications by Tilburg researchers will automatically be made Open Access in the Research Portal six months after first publication date. With this change in the publication policy, Tilburg University endorses the importance of Open Access publishing.

Professor of Legal History Randall Lesaffer appointed to Academia Europaea
13th May 2024Professor of Legal History Randall Lesaffer has been appointed to the Academia Europaea, the European Academy for Sciences, Humanities and Letters. Just as national academies do, the European Academy aims to promote excellence in all branches of scholarship for the public benefit and the advancement of education. Membership is by invitation only and implies a great recognition of one’s academic work.

Willem Witteveen Symposium and Competition
06th May 2024Together with the Dutch Senate (Eerste Kamer), Tilburg University is organizing a symposium on Wednesday afternoon, July 3, focusing on the scientific, political, and cultural legacy of former senator and professor Willem Witteveen of Tilburg Law School. The symposium also includes a competition for young people up to 30 years old.

Remembrance ceremony for students at Tilburg University’s war memorial
03rd May 2024On the occasion of the Remembrance of the Dead on May 4, Karim Schelkens, Dean of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, and Sander Herbergs, president of the Tilburg student association St. Olof, laid flowers at the war memorial commemorating the twenty-two Tilburg students who lost their lives during the Second World War. They died following bombings, because of their resistance activities, in concentration camps, or as a result of forced labor and illness. The memorial, consisting of a memorial wall with photos and candles, is located in Cobbenhagen Building.

Climate discourse shows religious traits: First results NWO research on religion and climate change

This is evident from the first research results of the NWO project group 'Religion and Climate Change' at the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology (TST), which will be presented on June 7 at Tilburg University.

Royal Decoration for Ada van der Velden-Westervelt and Gerard van den Berg
26th April 2024On April 26, Ada van der Velden-Westervelt, former Dean of the Tilburg School of Catholic Theology, received a royal decoration from the mayor of Ede. Gerard van den Berg, member of the Board of Governors of Tilburg University and professor of Health Econometrics at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the RUG and UMCG, was also honored on this day.

Closure of Starbucks on Tilburg University Campus from June 1
25th April 2024As of June 1, the Starbucks location on the Tilburg University campus will be closed. At the end of the regular contract period, Starbucks (an Albron franchise) has reconsidered its position.

Brabant meets Europe at the second "kathedralenbouwersbijeenkomst" in Den Bosch
24th April 2024Held at the Cathedral Basilica, this event, spearheaded by Tilburg University, TU/E, and VNO-NCW Brabant, featured inspiring talks by Minister of Social Affairs and Employment, Karien van Gennip, and Robert-Jan Smits. Their speeches, complemented by a musical interlude from trumpeter Eric Vloeimans, touched on Brabant's heritage of entrepreneurship and community support.
