De-enrollment from education
If you want to quit your studies, there are a number of things you need to arrange. On this webpage you can read what you have to do if you de-enroll from your study program. This may include a de-enrollment, because of a (temporary) interruption of your study program.
No rights can be derived from the information provided below. Check for the exact regulations regarding de-enrollment and restitution the Registration and Tuition fee Regulations.
Bachelor and (Research) Master
Once you know that you have graduated or decided to quit your studies, you can de-enroll in Studielink.
You CANNOT de-enroll retroactively. Your enrollment will be terminated as of the first of the month following the month in which you submit your de-enrollment request in Studielink (or later in the academic year if you choose a later date).
To de-enroll, click the ‘Terminate Enrolment’ button in Studielink. Next, the 'Request for termination of enrolment' form is shown. Select the reason of your de-enrollment request and choose the date as of which you no longer wish to be enrolled.
Tuition fees and student finance
Once you have de-enrolled in Studielink you will be reimbursed for any overpaid tuition fees on the bank account known to Tilburg University. If you have paid the full amount, you will be reimbursed 1/12 portion for each month that you are no longer enrolled. If you pay in installments, the installments will stop. Additionally, you will be reimbursed for any overpaid tuition fees (if applicable).
If your de-enrollment date is July 1 or August 1, you will receive no refund. In this case, you may remain enrolled in the study program, giving you the possible added advantage of remaining registered as a student with all associated entitlements such as student finance and a student's travel pass. As of mid-June, you can then indicate that you do not wish to re-enroll for the next academic year (starting on September 1). You can do so in Studielink by clicking the 'Arrange your re-enrolment' button and selecting the option 'No, I do not wish to re-enrol'.
You will receive a confirmation of your de-enrollment request from Studielink. Please note: do not forget to stop your student finance and student travel pass at DUO if applicable. This has to be done no later than the 1st day of the 1st month you are no longer eligible. See also the checklist below.
First-year students
In special cases it is possible as a first-year student to cancel your enrollment within one month if you change your mind. For more information, see the FAQ What to do if I want to quit studying, temporarily or altogether?
Pre-Master's program
Once you have completed the pre-Master's program or if you have decided to quit the program, you can de-enroll in Studielink.
You CANNOT de-enroll retroactively. Your enrollment will be terminated as of the first of the month following the month in which you submit your de-enrollment request in Studielink (or later in the academic year if you choose a later date).
If you subsequently move on to a Master’s program within the academic year, your pre-Master’s enrollment will be terminated automatically as soon as you are fully enrolled for the Master’s program.
To de-enroll, click the ‘Terminate Enrolment’ button in Studielink. Next, the 'Request for termination of enrolment' form is shown. Select the reason of your de-enrollment request and choose the date as of which you no longer wish to be enrolled.
Pre-Master’s students do not pay tuition fees, but a weighted fee that depends on the number of credits (ECTS) of the pre-Master's program. You are therefore not entitled to a refund if you de-enroll during the academic year. Did you choose to pay your weighted fee in installments, Tilburg University will continue to withdraw the remaining installments from your bank account until the outstanding amount is paid in full. You can therefore choose to remain enrolled until August 31. The advantage of staying enrolled might be that you retain your student entitlements such as student finance and a student's travel pass.
